As violence grips the northeastern state of Manipur, security forces will soon start conducting aerial surveillance along the Indo-Myanmar border in the state. According to defence sources, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) will be used to monitor the areas apart from physical vigils.
Tension has been brewing in Manipur ever since May 3, when a rally organised by the All Tribal Student Union Manipur (ATSUM) in Churachandpur district’s Torbung area turned violent. The state government suspended the internet for five days and paramilitary forces have been deployed to control the violence.
