Send anyone who tries to steal votes to hospital: BJP MP Dilip Ghosh ahead of Bengal panchayat polls

By Rittick Mondal: BJP national vice-president and MP Dilip Ghosh on Saturday courted controversy when he “directed” his supporters to use bamboos to “treat people” who may create trouble at polling booths during upcoming panchayat elections in West Bengal.

He said, “I am directing you to give good treatment to anyone who tries to steal votes at the polling booths. Give them treatment that they will need hospital after that. Use bamboos so that they can feel the pain,” said the BJP leader.

Ghosh’s comments came at a time when both the Trinamool Congress and the opposition BJP are gearing up for high voltage panchayat polls set to take place this year in West Bengal.

On Saturday while addressing a public meeting in Bankura’s Onda, Ghosh took a jibe at Trinamool National General secretary Abhishek Banerjee over his outreach campaign.

The BJP MP said, “Abhishek Babu went to select candidates in his party, asking people to write-down candidate’s names. But they looted ballot boxes along with ballot papers. This is what TMC is. It’s a practice match for the rigging in panchayat elections.”
