Caught on cam: Railway protection constable saves Andhra man who tried to end life on railway tracks

By Abdul Basheer: A constable of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) saved the life of a man who tried to end his life by jumping on the railway tracks at Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam road railway station. RPF constable D.S. Giri, who was deployed on platform duty, pulled the man to safety as he was about to get hit by an express train. The entire incident was caught on CCTV camera.

While on platform duty on Friday at around 1.35 am, Constable Giri noticed a man on the railway track on route no. 03 just as train 18045 East Coast Express was approaching. Constable Giri immediately rushed to the scene and pulled the man to safety, risking his own life in the process.

During the subsequent enquiry, it was found that the man tried to end his life due to family disputes and financial problems.

The on-duty RPF officer, ASI/B.D.S. Prasad, along with staff, counselled the man and informed his family members about the incident. The man was then safely handed over to his family.
