By Kumar Kunal: Heatwave is likely to make a comeback in most parts of India this week after days of pleasant weather, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
According to the IMD forecast, parts of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and central India are expected to record temperatures as high as 45 degrees Celsius.
Delhi and its neighbouring areas are likely to witness temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius.
HOT WEATHER CONDITIONS
Heatwave conditions are very likely in isolated pockets in Gangetic West Bengal between May 9 and May 11, the IMD said.
Hot and sultry weather conditions are expected to prevail over Konkan and Goa on May 10 and May 11 and coastal Odisha between May 9 and May 12.
Maximum temperatures are predicted to increase by 3-5 degrees Celsius over most parts of the country during the next five days, according to the weather department.
LIGHT TO MODERATE RAIN IN SOUTH, NORTHEAST
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light to moderate rainfall at various places in southern and northeastern parts of the country this week.
Light to moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms/lighting/gusty winds is very likely in Kerala, Mahe and south interior Karnataka during the next five days, the IMD said. Light isolated to scattered rainfall is expected to occur in the rest parts of the region in the next 24 hours.
Heavy rainfall is predicted at isolated places in Kerala, Mahe and south interior Karnataka on May 11.
In the northeast, scattered to fairly widespread rainfall is expected to occur in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya during the next two days. Heavy rain is likely at isolated places in Arunachal Pradesh on May 9 (Tuesday).

RAINFALL AT OTHER PLACES
Rainfall/thundershowers occurred on Monday at a few places over Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan and Muzaffarabad, at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, Madhya Maharashtra, Telangana, Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.
Hailstorms also occurred at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh.
Meanwhile in Uttarakhand, a yellow alert for rainfall accompanied with gusty winds has been issued on May 9 at many places across the state.
Snowfall was recorded in Gangotri, Yamunotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. Heavy rainfall occurred in Bageshwar. More rain is likely in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag and Pithoragarh.
