Priyanka Chopra Jonas spoke about her parents’ sacrifice when she won the Miss India 2000 title at the age of 17. Priyanka’s parents, Ashok Chopra and Madhu Chopra, were both Indian Army physicians who had opened a hospital in their hometown of Bareilly. However, they gave it all up to move to Mumbai to support her career. Priyanka admitted that she had taken their life-altering decision for granted until she became a mother herself.

Speaking about her parents’ sacrifice, Priyanka told Femina, “At that time, I took it all completely for granted. I was like; of course it’s your parents’ job to do that. My career matters. And I didn’t even think about it until I was writing my book. And then it dawned on me like now I’m in my 40s. And that, if I were asked to give up my career and just move countries, I would do it without question for my daughter.”
She further added, “It is, still, a huge sacrifice. And we are so blessed to have parents who did that. But there are families under societal pressures that don’t necessarily know that they can let their daughters have aspirations. So, I think that the one thing that we need to do is create a dialogue around parenting, around raising our sons in a way in which there is respect for women, creating opportunities in society where women are in positions of power. Not just getting jobs, but actually being decision makers. I think that’s what’s going to change it for us.”
Nick and Priyanka tied the knot in Rajasthan in December 2018, and in January of the following year, they welcomed their daughter Malti Marie Chopra Jonas.
Meanwhile on the professional front, currently Priyanka is receiving rave reviews for her Amazon Prime series Citadel. It is produced by the Russo Brothers’ AGBO and showrunner David Weil. Alongside Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden, the 6-episode series features Stanley Tucci and Lesley Manville in pivotal roles. She is currently busy with the promotions of Love Again with Sam Heughan. The film is expected to release on May 12. She also has Heads of State and Farhan Akhtar’s Jee Le Zaraa with Alia Bhatt and Katrina Kaif in her pipeline.
