By Ritvick Arun Bhalekar: Saamana, the mouthpiece of Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT), has targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah over 40,000 women who have gone missing from Gujarat. The editorial questioned the BJP leaders about the missing women figures revealed in National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data.
“It is very serious that women are trapped in human trafficking but still Modi Bhakts chant the glory of the successful Gujarat Model,” the editorial stated.
According to National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data, Gujarat has reported over 40,000 missing women over a span of five years.
Targetting Vivek Agnihotri for his movies Kashmir Files and The Kerala Story, the Sena mouthpiece also suggested the filmmaker to make a film titled ‘Gujarat Files’ about the missing women and girls in Gujarat.
“Similarly, figures of women missing Maharashtra are also alarming,” mentioned the editorial.
As per the data, 70 women are missing daily while five thousand women have gone missing in the state in the last three months.
“What is the Shinde-Fadnavis government doing about it?” the editorial stated while adding that the incumbent governments in both states have been raking up issues such as ‘Bajrang Bali, Hanuman Chalisa and religious conversion’, instead of redressing issues of the poor and underprivileged women in bordering areas of Gujarat and Maharashtra.

In a blatant attack on the Prime Minister, the Sena mouthpiece implied that PM Modi’s radio show ‘Mann ki Baat’ misguided people about how former PM Jawaharlal Nehru and the Gandhis were responsible for the missing women and human trafficking in Gujarat.
“These women and their families will get justice only if law and order prevail in Gujarat, or else people will be misguided in PM Modi’s ‘Mann ki Baat’ that how Nehru and Gandhi are responsible for these missing women,” it stated.
Touching upon the ongoing wrestlers’ protest in the national capital, demanding the arrest and ouster of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Singh, Saamana stated, “Even women wrestlers sitting for dharna in Delhi has no ears from the government for their ordeal. Neither the Prime Minister nor Home Minister is ready to talk about them.”

In a veiled jibe at the alleged undercurrent of religion in the country’s politics, the Saamana editorial stated that if the police failed to “find out missing women, then they should be sent to Guwahati to perform rituals like sacrificing buffaloes to deities to find kaksh of missing girls.”
“Or else the Rana couple (Navneet and Ravi Rana) should sit and chant Hanuman Chalisa at Sabarmati ashram in Gujarat to pray for these missing girls. If PM Modi and Amit Shahs do not care about missing girls, it will be considered that they don’t care about anything,” the Sena’s editorial stated.
