By India Today News Desk: A woman has been apprehended by Kerala Police on charges of selling her newborn to a couple in the capital city of Thiruvananthapuram for Rs 3 lakh.
On April 21, the Thampanoor police were informed by the District Child Welfare Committee (CWC) about the purported sale, bringing the incident to their attention.

“A 36-year old woman from Kanjiramkulam was arrested on Sunday,” police were quoted as saying by PTI.
According to the police, the woman had sold her child to a couple residing in the city for Rs 3 lakh, merely four days following the infant’s birth in the first week of April.

The responsibility for safeguarding the child has been assigned to the District Child Welfare Committee.
