By India Today News Desk: At least eight people, including a child, died and over a dozen were injured on Sunday after a pickup van they were travelling in was hit by a speeding truck on the Dalpatpur-Kashipur highway in Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad.
The collision occurred as the truck was travelling at a high speed and crashed into a pickup van. The accident took place near Khairkhata village on the Dalpatpur road under the Bhagatpur police station area.
A family was travelling in the van to attend a wedding ritual when the accident took place. Eyewitnesses reported that the impact of the collision was so severe that the truck overturned on top of the van.
Upon receiving news of the accident, local authorities rushed to the scene, including the SSP and other officials, to oversee rescue operations. Many passengers travelling in the van were trapped underneath the wreckage and had to be extricated with great difficulty.
Fifteen people were injured in the incident and they were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. The injured include occupants of both vehicles.
Police and local authorities are on the spot and a post-mortem of the deceased will be carried out as soon as possible.
