By Suryagni Roy: Reiterating her stand on Opposition unity in the run-up to the 2024 general elections, CM Mamata Banerjee said that parties should apply the concept of “one is to one fight” against the ruling BJP. She was speaking at a public meeting after reviewing the areas affected by the erosion of the river Ganga in Murshidabad.
“All Opposition parties must unite. Let’s do a ‘one is to one fight’ against BJP. Whoever is strong in an area, should fight from there,” said the Chief Minister. She also alleged that the Centre is not paying West Bengal its due funds as a part of a political vendetta.

“The Centre has said that they will not give us funds till the 2024 elections because we have been fighting against them. We don’t fight against the Centre. They make us forget history. How can we forget Gandhi and Vivekananda?” said Mamata Banerjee.
She also claimed that using the central agencies against Opposition parties would not fetch the BJP any votes. She also claimed that despite having no cases, the BJP uses agencies to defame the Opposition leaders.
She said, “The BJP has two things to say, one is ‘Thok Do’ and when they send agencies, they tell them ‘Dhamaka Kar Do’. Officers of CBI and ED tell them that there is no case. They tell them, ‘Badnaam Kardo’. Agencies won’t fetch them votes”
Mamata Banerjee had previously met various Opposition leaders, including Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, and she had shown her desire for an Opposition meeting before the 2024 general elections.
